711 delegates of the first World Congress for Persons with Disabilities visited more than 43 master classes on the first day of the event . The participants selected the topics and routes themselves, taking into account their interests, education or profession.
“It is very important that everyone can discover their potential, their abilities, show their creativity to the world, and share ideas. This is the main purpose of the master classes – to see the value of everyone. Creative ideas and new skills developed at the congress will be introduced by participants in their countries, so good ideas will be shared around the world,” said Thomas Kraus, chairman of the international coordinating committee.
This morning for all delegates of the Congress began with a panel discussion “To see the value of everyone”, at which speakers from New Zealand, Nepal, Belgium, France, Russia and other countries sought the answer to the question “how to increase the role of people with disabilities in society.” Parts of the answer have already been found – the head of the region Evgeny Kuyvashev stated this during the opening of the congress.
“The program of the congress provides for a lot of open events, in which people with and without disabilities can participate. This is of great importance for strengthening the positions of an inclusive society, deep immersion of society in the problems of people with disabilities”, said Evgeny Kuyvashev.
The participants of the congress think that it is necessary to start with ourselves and to become important in close cooperation with the government of the region to create an inclusive society. The dancer from Nepal, Shausti Casey, who lost her sight, noted that it is necessary to strive to help others, to improve this world. Only after that the society will change.
“Blind women in Nepal are considered marginal for two reasons. First, because we are blind, second – because we are women. They think that we cannot be full members of society, we cannot be useful. I’m trying to fight this attitude. It is true, I have not yet got married, but everything is ahead, “the young woman noted.
The search for “the value of everyone” continued at the master classes. One of them – a master class “Inclusive Dancing in the style of Bollywood” – was hosted by Shaesty Casey. For an hour people with disabilities danced South Asian dances in pairs, in a circle and singly. “During such workshops participants loosen up, become confident and begin to dance,” the girl said.
Another master class – “Social Reporter” – was hosted by a young TV journalist Ksenia Kaminskaya. The girl herself has been in a wheelchair since birth, but believes that this is not an excuse to sit at home. She realized her passion for journalism in the project “Social Reporter”, which creates videos about those for whom disability did not become an obstacle to a full life, and how to facilitate and diversify life for people with disabilities.
“I always have something to say and show. I believe that everyone who experiences difficulties must believe in themselves, do what they like and not lose hope,” says Ksenia Kaminskaya.
Together with her friend Anastasia Zyryankina, also a TV journalist, she told her current students (some of them are a lot older than the girls), what is a survey, why they do it, how journalists work … This master class has become practical: participants themselves made a video poll. Already tomorrow, young teachers will edit and show what today’s students have created.
Another group of participants of the first World Congress for Persons with Disabilities attended a master class “How to create a film” at the Salyut cinema. Within the framework of the event, the film “The Stone Flower” was presented, according to the tale of the famous Ural writer P.P. Bazhov. It should be noted that the actors in this movie were young people, members of the Sverdlovsk regional public organization of disabled people “Sun Kids”. According to the head of the organization Tatiana Cherkasova, “the participation of special children in the creation of films is a unique opportunity for them to realize themselves creatively, to acquire the skills of interaction and communication necessary for the effective socialization of people with disabilities in society.”
Tomorrow the business program of the congress will continue: master classes and panel discussions will be held again. In addition, all participants will gather up in the Mayakovsky Park of Culture and Recreation, where the unique project “Inclusive City” will be realized, it will also be attended by residents and guests of Ekaterinburg.
