On August 10, in the Public Chamber of the Sverdlovsk region, the organizers of the First World Congress met with the representatives of locally-based socially-engaged organizations that work in the domain of rights of persons with disabilities. Minister of social policy of the Sverdlovsk region Andrey Zlokazov, secretary of the Public Chamber Sergey Polyganov, CEO of Blagoe Delo NGO Vera Simakova, President of WHITE CANE NGO Oleg Kolpashchikov and others attended the meeting.
The organizers informed the audience about the regional festival “Opportunities without borders”, 40 laureates of which will become delegates of the Congress. They also spoke about open events of the Congress’s program, whereby everyone may participate. Among these open events there is the 6th inter-regional special exhibition “Social support and rehabilitation of people with disabilities: Gadgets, technologies, services” to take place at the Center of design. Then, there is also the unique project “Inclusive City” that will take place on September 9 at 3pm in the Mayakovsky Park of Culture. At Inclusive City delegates of the Congress, together with denizens and guests of the city, will communicate and explore different national and cultural stands. Finally, there is the Inclusive Art concert at the Cosmos cinema theater, which will take place on September 9 and will gather professional artists and amateur performers with disabilities on one stage. Tickets to the Opening ceremony and the inclusive concert will be distributed through Yekaterinburg’s socially engaged organizations.
Representatives of the All-Russia society of people with disabilities expressed their concern with accessibility of the Congress’s venues and hotels. They also expressed interest in the online broadcasting of the Opening ceremony and panel discussions. Additionally, they gave suggestions on how to improve the technical side of the organization of the Congress.
As a result of the meeting, the participants have produced a resolution with all their remarks and suggestions.
